Choice of music for the three tracks:
ORIENTE-La Lupe-Unknown to Aaron, I wrote a paper on La Lupe and her musical career & history as part of a master’s music course requirement. So…the fact that he picked one of La Lupe’s songs was pretty interesting and enjoyable to do. I enjoyed redoing the song for several reasons.
ISLA DEL ENCANTO-When Aaron first introducted the song, I immediately liked it because I wanted something that would represent who I was…a Latina who has roots from Puerto Rico and a connection to my family which lives there.
Teach Me (Me Gusta Tu Baile)-Aaron wanted to bring this song back from Patti Labelle’s archives…again….an unknown fact to him was that I actually attended one of her concerts and wanted her to have my first CD…so while she was singing, I went up to the stage and handed her a rudimentary Bio & the “Next Level” CD. I never heard any feedback on that….but…I knew at that moment that a seed had been planted. It was an awesome moment for me that night at the War Memorial Theater in Trenton, New Jersey. The fact that I am singing one of her obscure songs is even more amazing….and magical that Aaron even picked it as one of his songs for me to sing. (Maybe, I will get feedback? Lol)
