David is a versatile tenor based in England, popular on You Tube and adding to his albums on download stores. He first performed with junior choirs in Wales. His brother Colin was taught in Bargoed by Stuart Burrows, later to be a renowned Mozart tenor and TV star. After graduating Colin sang with Welsh National Opera. David attended Lewis School Pengam where he was contemporary with Lord Neil Kinnock, former leader of the UK Labour Party who promoted Tony Blair. While studying sciences David won eisteddfod competitions in French and German, wrote review sketches and played in the jazz group. He also represented the school at athletics.
David began voice tuition at University and sang in student productions. After graduating he continued voice studies with Vera Mallett and was coached by Gerald Davies, once principal tenor at Sadler''s Wells. David subsequently sang Don Jose and Elgar’s Gerontius, with Ian Caddy as the Priest. David founded Opera Cameo in St Albans and sang roles including Rodolfo and Alfredo. He also worked at the Harlow Playhouse with Norman Meadmore, formerly a senior producer with D’Oyly Carte. Moving to Milton Keynes in 1985 as a Software Engineer, David then sang leads in opera and oratorio and took roles in plays including Aykbourn’s ‘Gosforth’ with the Open University Theatre Group.
David began recording in 2001 and in 2008 started his ‘VoceVersatile’ You Tube channel which passed a half million views in November 2010.
Early in 2010 David began preparing albums on the VoceVersatile label which range from British Songs, Arie Antiche, Opera and Lieder, to Hits and Standards. Thus far his albums include English Song, Opera, Schubert and Handel – recent ones being Schumann’s DichterLiebe and ‘Vacanza Italiana’. David has recorded 360 songs in nine years. He manages the entire process alone, from scores to accompaniment, performance, mastering, distribution and publicity.
David also taught for the Open University and teaches at the University Centre, Milton Keynes. His wife Jean Tatton Jones is a successful painter and prize-winning poet whose work can be viewed on-line.
