Nashville, TN--Some new bands take their time when building their catalog, and some hit the ground running. Count Nashville-based Bedhed and Blondy and The Sleepwalkers firmly in the latter group. Jay Studdard and Fran Jackson formed Bedhed and Blondy in February of 2010 and soon thereafter released their acoustic debut, Somewhere in Memphis. “When we first started performing, we got a few offers from some of the other players around town to jam,” Studdard recalls. “Before we knew it, we had a small group that sounded very different from our duo.” With three new members on board, Bedhed and Blondy and The Sleepwalkers released their sophomore album, Nuthin’..., in November 2010.
The past year has been a whirlwind for the band, particularly Studdard and Jackson, who released two albums worth of material over the span of nine months. “In the beginning, between Jay and me, we had a lot of material,” Jackson says. “When we added the Sleepwalkers, we loved the new sound and wanted to capture it as quickly as possible, so we recorded Nuthin’... in just a few days. It''s been great fun.”
Praised for their strong songwriting and harmony vocals, each member of Bedhed and Blondy and The Sleepwalkers adds something unique to the band''s Americana/folk-rock sound. Studdard, a Georgia native and the group’s primary songwriter, brings a southern rock background on rhythm guitar and vocals; Fran Jackson, vocalist and rhythm guitarist, listened to her grandmother sing the blues and soft jazz while growing up in southwest Alabama; Texas native Austin Skinner, on lead guitar and vocals, is well versed in Texas boogie, rock and blues; William "Billy" Ramirez honed his percussion skills while growing up in Puerto Rico before coming to the States in 1997; and Dave Mohr, the band''s newest addition on bass, is a music major steeped in the Chicago music scene. “No one outside of Nashville really knows who we are,” Studdard says. “We are excited to introduce ourselves to everyone.”
Recorded at OGM Studio with acclaimed engineer Charlie Chadwick, Nuthin’... is primed to open some eyes for Bedhed and Blondy and The Sleepwalkers. “Music is perhaps best when its essence reveals a depth of soul, and simplicity,” says John Pavlovsky of the Rock ''n'' Roll Express Radio Show. “Nuthin’... reflects this notion, as its sweetness and swagger render songs that are instantly memorable.” The band currently is promoting songs from both albums while performing in the Nashville area, with plans for a Southeastern summer tour in 2011. “From the minute we played together, we know we had an interesting sound,” Jackson says. “This Nuthin’... recording is Bedhed and Blondy and The Sleepwalkers. Here we are. This is us.”
