Details:
The climb to success in the Midwest rap market is an unfriendly and sometimes downright ugly one. However some artists surface beyond this stigmatism because of talent, due diligence, and the desire to give it your all by digging deep. Even when all the cards are stacked against you and it seems like someone rigged the deck.
One of these such artists is the rapidly up-and-coming CIRYL DA GREAT. Born in 1987 into a tumultuous childhood Ciryl relocated to the south suburbs of Chicago at the age of thirteen, soon thereafter, he started attending Bloom Trail High School where his rap skills were put to the test by the upperclassmen who put Ciryl on the front line in the daily lunchroom battles because his potential was clearly visible, and none of his contemporaries could deny it, or overcome it. This was the beginning of his reputation and his climb towards achieving his dreams. His reputation led him into a crew called CTF (Chi-Towns Finest) which was a predecessor to KILLA RHYMEZ. This crew taught Ciryl alot but unfortunately business wasn’t one of this cliques strong points, so Ciryl began to pursue his own solo career. Releasing his solo mixtape “New Year’s Resolution” in 2008, it soon became a hit on the streets and created a loyal cultish following in the south suburbs of Chicago and in northwest Indiana. Continuing to gravitate towards music and how to be successful at it there were a few times when Ciryl had thought his golden opportunity had come, however, local labels without proper direction created a standstill in Ciryls climb to the top of the local market.
Reformatory Records found Ciryl in the fall of 2009 through a personal friend and had given him a chance to open up on one of our showcases. After getting to know this artist and his decade of experience we solicited him and began to give him the exposure and marketing that the local rap scene was unable to provide him. Taking our personal experience we have begun to forward this artists presence into many markets globally.
“And The Drumma Goes...” offers a refreshing dose of Hip Hop via a combination of well developed coherent lyrics and tastefully placed add libs placed over a creative and catchy original drum ensemble notable for its bass drops and customized claps which sends ones head nodding to the beat that was produced by Gary Indiana native NSTRMNTL who has proven to be one of the most gifted and innovative composers that the Midwest has seen in awhile. Relying on its own rhythmic merit, and the artists ability to stand his own ground as a vocalist, this trendsetting single with its radio and explicit versions is just a glimpse into things to come from this artists full length album “Da Birth Of A Great 1” which will be available this spring on Reformatory Records.
CIRYL DA GREAT is a ten year veteran of the Northern Indiana, and Chicago rap scene who has a style that is totally unique in his own right yet his close friends and critics have compared his punchline delivery to Drake, Lil Wayne, and Dipset and it is said that his overall style resembles Eminem, T.I., and Dipset. Either way it goes, Ciryl Da Great has been increasing his fanbase one set of ears at a time, so let yours be the judge of this extremely talented artist.
