Victorious, Eternal, Light: A JAZZ PASSION is the result of a collaborative process between Pastor David Abrahamson and composers Andy Tecson, Bobby Lewis and Bobby Schiff in an effort to create, in modern language and the jazz idiom, a musical account of Jesus’ ultimate act for our salvation. The form of this production has it origins in the long history of Passion music and drama and pushes the limits of the genre to create a lively instrument for proclamation and teaching for people of the 21st century.
The Jazz Passion is a continuation of the ChurchJazz ministry (https://www.tradebit.com). For three decades, the ChurchJazz Ensemble, led by Andy Tecson (andrewtecson@https://www.tradebit.com), has brought jazz liturgies, Psalm settings and hymn settings into Sunday morning worship, hymn festivals, church conventions, and fundraisers for social service agencies and humanitarian efforts.
While all of the singers and instrumentalists on the recording worked extraordinarily hard to bring the scores to life, special thanks needs to be given to the author of the libretto, Pastor David G. Abrahamson, composers Andy Tecson, Bobby Lewis and Bobby Schiff, conductor Justin Sisul, Bev Coleman who copied the vocal scores, Bob Bowker who created and sang the role of Jesus and produced the vocal recordings, and Sam Fishkin, who devoted countless hours to recording and mixing the music. It is our hope that this music conveys the power and majesty of Christ’s sacrifice and stunning victory over death.
