As I glance through the rear view mirror of a rented Ryder truck. I took my last photographic snap shot of what would be considered the end of my time spent in Upstate New York.
A full tank of diesal and a couple of necessary refills, landed me in the core pit of "Georgia''s Peaches". From Smyrna/Marietta... Kennesaw would be the place where I became a student. A student of life/history/Culture/Science and Music. I felt like "Danielson and Mr Meyagi" and I owe it all to a very special person. This person shared with me, all her tools, all the tools that we all should have when trying to build a life from scratch. Then came an instrument, an instrument that has shaped my life like the carpenter who built it. I''m talking about my very first guitar, a guitar that was more than a gift givin to me on my birthday. It was more like a subliminal message, a landmark of some sort.
This was around 2004. I became attached to the hip with what some would think is just some polished piece of wood. For me it became a out, identity, barrier breaker or stereo type taker. I practiced every day. I went from the living room to open mics, open mics to jam sessions, jam sessions to band practice.
The first show I went to see was one of my favorite musicians Vanessa Carrlton," upstairs" live at Smith''s Olde Bar. My most proudest achievement was getting the opportunity to play a one hour set on that very same stage almost 4 years later. I''ll never forget that day! My second would be Eddies Atic. The home of "John Mayer". I stood a better chance of hitching a ride on a Unicorn than making the finals at that venue. When I heard my name get called for the finals that year 2009... I could not believe it! We all need self modivation, sometime you have to event your own. I do it every day!
