Details:
Jacob Lipking was born in raised in Jackson Mississippi. He exhibited a passion for music at an early age and has pursued that passion for most of his life. A highly skilled guitarist and singer/songwriter, Indifference is the Worst (Songs devoted to the one who got away) is Jacob''s debut album and features a variety of musical styles and genres. "Indifference" is a very unique album filled with original compositions and an eclectic sound. He currently teaches guitar, works at Lipking Music in Brandon, and enjoys playing at various venues and events around Jackson.

The album’s style reprises the bluesy musical vocabulary the late 60’s psychedelic rock and 70’s southern rock but combines them with the multilayered wall of sound grammatical sensibilities of Indie Pop, Grunge, and the progressive trends in Rock that have followed.

The opening track “The Introduction” showcases almost all that’s to come lyrically and musically from the shimmer and roar of 70’s influenced metal to cryptic fuzz, to found-sound industrial, and a vocal delivery that rolls between the slow, smokey and Morrisoneque, to the bright and mystic Bono-optic.

Lipking intersperses the album with a few quip-like, sometimes wry-humorous micro-songs, like little lyrical Easter eggs that serve either to lighten the weight of darker moments or provide a guilty pleasure musical transition. This keeps the flow of Indifference rolling right on down that parabola song to song.

“Breath and All It’s Consequences” is the third song and first of four stand-out tracks. It is the most radio friendly, and is far and away one of the most beautiful and most tender, a reflection on all that follows that first breath when, “life is so loud.”

The near-whimsical twee-er than thou “Utopian Meadow” begins light and atmospheric, cloud-waltzing with dewy flutes fresh from “Over the Rainbow.” It then resolves into a bright paen to the great fun-filled life “in the meadow”…bubble gum, best friends, better champagne, daisy garlands, etc., a wry look at a shallow vision of heaven, all the while keeping a weather-eye out for a deeper truer vision lurking in the light.

If you’ve not heard of Jacob Lipking, or not heard “Indifference Is the Worst”, and you truly appreciate powerful, complex music, and dense poetic lyrics that invite you to actually think, then buckle up. Prepare for chronic cramping of your delight muscles.
