Gifted guitarist and prolific composer Michael LaMacchia''s fresh, personal compositions bridge musical worlds, drawing from the realms of Jazz, Brazilian, African, Latin, Classical and Pop. On this album, Michael approaches the music with an intimate, passionate, and technically accomplished intensity. Rob Fordyce, bass virtuoso, weaves complex rhythms and bass lines seamlessly into each track, and stuns with an inspired, moody performance on the bass solo composition "Mr. Mysterioso." Intergalactic spaceman and percussionist Jim Bove not only helps launch the band into orbit with his deft, nuanced brushwork, but also doubled as the band''s sonic architect, recording, arranging, and mixing the album''s entire contents. Vocalist Haley Mears'' rich voice brings a depth & soulfulness to the songs, infusing each phrase with a style reminiscent of Natalie Merchant or Cowboy Junkies'' Margo Timmins. Together, New Directions functions as a true ensemble band, with dynamic and lyrical interplay between each of the members.
