Details:
"Take four best friends, give them voices capable of bloodline-like four-part harmonies, the talent to write catchy hooks and melodies, and the will to take their music to the public on their own terms (adding a rather bent view of life and a propensity to laughter), and the result will be a band like the scoldees." -ENTERTAINMENT TODAY, LA

Definition:
scold ~ ee
-noun- One who is scolded, generally for having a bit too much fun.

What’s with the dog, you might ask? Does a member of the band belong to him? What’s his name? Does he need the glasses, or is he just trying to look cool?

Here’s the scoop…

We were working on our debut record during the summer of 1999. Also that summer, we were honored and slap-happy to be invited to play at the 30-Year Reunion Concert at Yasgur’s Farm. Not at the actual site of the 1969 Woodstock Concert, that parcel of land was down the road a spell. A couple named Roy Howard and Jeryl Abramson had bought the farm years before from Max and Miriam Yasgur, and had been welcoming musicians and campers for years, especially on the middle weekend each August. But 1999 was a big year, and so they built a stage onto the barn, and bands were booked to play the gig. It was an experience like no other, we camped out, we peed in a hole in the ground, I lost my shoe, and we almost lost the van, in the deep, deep mud.

Anyhoo, the dog.

On our way to the gig, we stopped at a roadside min-mart just outside of Bethel to get beer. As we were getting out of our van, another pulled up next to us and this doggie jumped out. He was wearing sunglasses, a strap around his head - nobody dressed him up for show, he was wearing them like he never went out in the sunshine without them. Johnny (JC) took a few great pictures with a disposable camera, and we headed to White Lake for our own little party before the party.

Corollary…

After Bethel, we paid a friend to do a photo shoot for the CD cover. David Pigate did us a solid, but still it was a chunk of change. It wasn’t until after we had the proofs in our hands, trying to pick a shot, that the disposable from our trip was developed. We knew in ONE SECOND that the puppy with the sunglasses was the money shot. Perhaps one day we will find out who belongs to that wonderful dog, and what his/her name is. That was almost 9 years ago, but with any luck she’s still shielding her eyes from the sun, out for a run, still having fun.

So our debut CD, MY PATHETIC LIFE, was released in early 2000, and was very well-received. We got some fantastic reviews (Billboard’s Continental Drift wrote us up, Relix, FMQB), some decent (for an unknown first release) airplay in 94 secondary markets, and some 15,000 downloads for the first track, SILLY GIRL. I am very proud of this record – my personal favorite tracks are KID Stuff, MY BRIGHT LIFE and the title track MY PATHETIC LIFE.

Today, you might say The Scoldees are on a break, but then again you might say that Nancy Sirianni is now a solo artist. However it all pans out, looks like the third Scoldees CD will be a Sirianni solo effort, and she’s got a few songs already up on her personal site. Same stuff, but different.

Sirianni is writing this, so it’s a little weird to be speaking of oneself in the third person, but thanks for reading, double thanks for listening, and triple thanks if you come out to see me/her play live. New (solo) songs up will be up here soon. Contact Nancy if you’d like at scoldee@https://www.tradebit.com.
