Details:
The debut CD, Carolina, is the result of what SalemSpeaks loves most: connecting through music. The product is an exciting acoustic sound that is both honest and fresh. The band utilizes an assortment of musical talent and songwriting capability to create appealing songs with a unique sound. Each member brings a distinct musical style and the group comes together with harmonic vocals, fiddle, mandolin, guitar, keyboard and percussion. This blend of character provides a great musical sound. Youth and energy are apparent as the combined chemistries of the group collide. The separate pieces are seamlessly melded together to create something entirely new. The whole of SalemSpeaks is more powerful and moving than its separate parts.

All of the songs on the debut CD are co-written by band members. The songs on the CD range from upbeat rock energy to serene fiddle melody, from guitar ballad to a country flare. This reflects the depth of talent of the musicians. The album opens with – “Crowded Room,” a song about social interaction with vocal interplay between Zach Britt and Katherine Ririe as well as a fiddle backdrop. The album continues with “The Grace is Gone,” a song reflecting on the void created when two people share time and then grow apart. Brad Stokes fashions great keyboard lines in this song to create a unique feel. “Hush” is the first song penned by the group and exemplifies the playful musical roots of the band. The title track “Carolina” is an energetic song with mandolin breaks and a story to tell. Rich harmony and an outstanding fiddle accompaniment build from a slow song to an energetic and vibrant jam in “Goodbye or Goodnight.” Austin Hansen changes from percussion with “Twelve Years Gone,” telling a timeless tale in a peaceful and soulful guitar and vocal arrangement. Katherine Ririe strikes a balance between tradition and innovation with her vocals and mandolin on “When Tomorrow Comes.” The next track, “All I Need,” is a fun song with a solid mandolin anchor and Zach Britt’s vocals. The last track, “Yellow Line” has fiddle grooves and creates an image of the decision to pass or stay in your lane. Even more exciting is the effect of the sound the band creates live. They put on a great show with a compelling live performance full of energy that is both entertaining and inspiring.
