Details:
Some would describe Al Lukas as an old soul and a mystery – you can never tell what’s going on behind those eyes. Others would say he’s an anomaly because of his unique, soulful voice and self-taught musical talent, which he has already cultivated at the age of 25. Others still would describe him as a down-to-earth musician with an authentic and honest musical vision. However you choose to describe him, it is undeniable that Al Lukas’ music and his message are too genuine and powerful to ignore.

Born and raised in the small town of Kapuskasing, in Northern Ontario, Al grew up in a musical family. At the age of 15, Al learned to play guitar with the help of his family and his Grandmother, Alice, who taught him the traditional music that she knew. He soon began playing music in a Bluegrass/Newgrass band and his dream of becoming a musician was underway.

At the age of 20, Al moved to Windsor and was playing music wherever and whenever he could, taking the opportunity to further pursue his career in music by heading out to open-mic nights to showcase his original works; and, by filling in as a ‘hired gun’ guitar player for local bands. He soon came together with Kim “The Commander” Kelly, music manager and president of the independent Blue Disc record label, and with the help of producer James Anthony, they recorded Al’s self-titled debut album at Sound Investments Recording Studios in Burlington, Ontario. That’s when Al made the decision to move to Toronto to record, and later promote, his debut album.

A seamless blend of soul, blues, roots, and country, Al Lukas’ self-titled debut takes on an original shape and sound. Because he speaks of love, loss, and social awareness – you can recognize yourself in every lyric on this album or just simply feel the music.

In October of 2008, Mike Boulan, president of No Cover Productions and engineer at Straight Ahead Studios, heard two of Al’s original songs, “She’s My Cadillac” and “Broken Man” after Al competed in Detroit, Michigan at the International Blues Challenge, the largest blues competition of its kind in the world. Boulan immediately decided to record a full-length album with Al, and the making of Fall & Flight, Al Lukas’ second album, was on its way.

Fall & Flight, released in 2009, is crafted with the belief that we, as a society, must come down from our pedestal so we can begin to rise again…together. Living in the moment, realizing what’s at hand and what changes are needed is what Al’s second release is all about. The album features Al’s original songs which reflect his beliefs: “The world is living just as we are, and just as we are…it is ever –changing…fall or flight, the choice is ours.” While promoting his second album in the summer of 2009, Al Lukas and his band had the honour of opening up for Canadian Country legends Blue Rodeo in Al’s hometown of Kapuskasing, Ontario.

In the fall of 2009, Al Lukas embarked on a road trip of epic proportions with the help of Spoken Song Productions. Their project, The Good Faith Tour, will be featured in a one-hour documentary in 2011. Al bartered his way through a Canadian winter from Windsor, ON to Victoria, BC all while demonstrating the efficacy and importance of the barter system since the economic downfall of 2008, which was the entire premise of the tour.
