Well, this isn’t really an interesting story to be honest.
I was brought up in a totally non-musical family. No-one in my family, as far as I can trace, has ever played an instrument or even been a big ‘fan’ of music. My dad followed a couple of bands around in the ‘olden days’ and over the past few years he has started getting back into music, but other than that I am the first one to touch a guitar.
I got my first guitar for my birthday when I was 15 but never really took playing seriously until about a year later or so when a friend showed me the ‘Live In Denver’ DVD from ‘G3.’ I immediately fell in love with guitar playing, especially Satriani and Malmsteen (never been a BIG fan of Vai) and this prompted me to work on technique for a few years, though you would never know it because my technique sucks! During that time I was noodling about without any real direction just sort of playing for fun. I went to Newcastle College to study music which turned out to be a waste of two years but during that time I started to realise that perhaps music was for me.
So I started another course at Sunderland College and had much greater success. The teachers there were guys who had done it all in bands and were really friendly and just great people to be around. I ended up doing two years of college and two years of university. In 2010 I transferred over to Newcastle Uni to study music more academically and am really enjoying it thus far, despite how bloody intense it is!
