Define Appropriate is a true testament to musical hybridization. The band is a fusion of he members of two former local Las Vegas bands: Barney Fyfe and Floor Thirteen. Shedding their former ska/funk and ska/swing identities, these musicians joined together to create a newer style. Winston Wagner (Bassist/Vocalist) brings his fast fingering and occasional slap-bass style, while belting out the lyrics. Andrew Baxter (Guitarist) blends fast picking and full-frontal soloing throughout each track so well, he even does it twice. Kirk McKnight (Drums/Percussion) combines cymbal fluidity with unique, rhythmic beats and even has time to throw in his djembe hand drumming. Aside from the straightforward, radio friendly songs like “The Void” and “You,” Define Appropriate delves into less common time signatures in “Svelte,” “Conquest,” and “Oddity.” The more progressive feel to the band’s music are found in their lengthier tracks, “Conquest” and “Hindu Venue (Slight Return),” a song which has been remade twice since its inception with Bassist Wagner’s former project “Brother Chaos.” There is no other way to play this album but loud. Define Appropriate promises to bring you front to back, top to bottom, uninterrupted hard rock at its finest.
