Presence is a collection of fourteen worship songs that orbit around the central theme of God''s presence in the experience of worship. They''re songs written out of a place of worship for a place of worship--whether that''s in solitude or corporately in a church worship service. Many of them have been in the Sunday morning rotation at our church for a while and have proven themselves there. Others will be introduced in the months ahead. Our experience of worship comes in many varied moods, sensory and emotional experiences, and divine-relational moments. We tried to explore that wide spectrum on the Presence project. Some of the songs'' themes are large in scope, like In the Light and You Are, some are tender and intimate, like Glorious Presence and Holy is The Lord. There are songs of petition, Have Mercy On Me, and Show Your Love, while In Your Presence is an intense, personal, Revelation-Five-ish, throneroom drama. And smack dab in the middle is Hold On, a song that''s been a source of comfort and strength to many, with its prologue, In Between. Our hope is simply that these songs will draw you into God''s presence, whatever your circumstance or context. He is near.
About the Artists:
Brent and Celeste Johnson have been singing and writing music together since they were teenagers. In the years since, they''ve performed their music and led worship in a variety of venues, for crowds as large as 3,000 or as small as one (and that was in an empty coffee house where the only person there was the kid behind the counter wearing headphones).
One characteristic of their music is its adaptability. Whatever the context-indoor or outdoor, spacious church/arena or around a campfire, huge sound system to none-their songs can find their way to the heart of the people there. It is that moment of connection in a live setting with an audience or a congregation that makes their music the most alive. That''s what it''s about for this singer/songwriter duo.
