So here’s the deal friends, I haven’t had my fingers to the grindstone pumping away at this guitar since before I could walk and my vocal chords haven’t been sanded smooth to perfection, I’m saying, if all you’re looking for is technical whiz-bang and a kinda professional sleekness, I’ll probably disappoint you, which is fine. I’m just a kid and there’s music playing in my head which I try to get down. It keeps things from getting too boring. I started playing these songs for my friends a while back, shyly, and to my vague surprise they seemed to like ''em so I figured I’d play ''em for other people too, so look, that’s you.

If you want my musical history, in sixth grade (7 years ago!) I was the drummer for The Bugs and the five of us co-wrote and performed a song called “Rock and Roll.” “From my head to my toes/ there is something you should know/ from my heart to my soul/ I love ROCK AND ROLL!!!” Great. Now I strum a guitar and breathe a harmonica which is really easy to pick up, I mean musically, although I guess literally too, anyway you should try it. We call it “mouth organ” because it’s funny and because of Craig Ferguson.

I told my friend I was recording an album and she said, “Singing?!?!” and I have to agree. But like I said I’ve got songs and who else is going to sing them? People ask me who they’re written for and I look down and mumble, “I dunno,” which nobody seems to believe, but it is true. There are bits and pieces of people in a couple of lines (how violent) but mostly the songs just kinda popped up. You say, “Even ‘Princeton Lover’?” and I say, “Yes, shut up.” Some of them I wish someone would sing to me and some of them shouldn’t be sung to anyone unless they know you’re kidding, but you can figure all that out yourself.

So I''m writing all this because the website told me to, and because right now the house is empty and my friends are all back at college and Arielle Swernoff, my swell sound engineeress, took a bus up to New York this morning so I have nobody to watch Dexter with. Speaking of glass slides, I also have to thank Peter Hartmann for playing guitar wonderfully competently (on “You” and “Overtakin’”), which is more than can be said for certain other guitarists on this album. Thanks to DJ Gringo (look him up!) for letting us use his recording equipment, and to my parents and Arielle’s for obvious reasons, and to Oberlin for making us do winter term projects. And to all my franns. And to you, for listening (I love you, you smell nice, buy my album).

If it doesn’t “hum nice and clean,” I hope you''ll understand why.
