There’s a feel to the music of the Bent Lovehandles that defies explanation and category. People have been cured of all sorts of ills by their music and are sometimes healed right there on the spot during gigs. Reportedly, NASA has documented the strange mystical effects that the Bent Lovehandles have on a crowd and attributes these phenomena to alien possession. We know it’s just CDM – Chihuahuan Desert Magic.
Brent Lovelady and William Rich – two desert rats who like to make music – each found themselves in the Big Bend of Texas for similar reasons, although they arrived by different paths. Brent, via Egypt, spent time in Nashville, but left because “… alas I didn’t like the pace or the noise.” The same slow pace and silence of the desert pulled William to the Big Bend after growing up in Houston, working and living “several lives” there. They each have “come home” to space and time, light and silence – and lives in which they can answer their need to create music, have fun doing it and share magic and pleasure with their friends and fans.
The serendipity of the desert and the magic of music birthed a musical partnership that led to this first CD. Says William, “Our talents overlap in just the right places. Brent knows songwriting. I know music. We both like a tight sound. To achieve that, less is always more.”
Sacred Order of the Broken Hearts is a spare, eclectic collection of words and music created by Brent’s imagination and enhanced by William’s musicianship – each song expresses the magic of their desert and the experience of their living. They sing and play with love, laughter, honest pain and joy – all the experiences of real lives. And they invite you along to enjoy the journey.
