Bekkers Live at Makawao is the first live recording released of the piano guitar duo of Robert Bekkers and Anne Ku and also first public concert in the USA. Formed in 2001, the Bekkers Piano Guitar Duo has given concerts in London, North Cyprus, Cape Town, Madrid, Houston, and performs regularly throughout the Netherlands.
Robert Bekkers received his performing and teaching degrees at the Conservatory of Maastricht. He has also studied contemporary music with Angelo Gilardino in Italy. He has arranged many works for his duos with piano, violin, flute, voice, and guitar. Robert Bekkers plays a 2005 Jeroen Hilhorst concert guitar, custom-made for the duo.
Born in Brunei of Chinese parents, Anne Ku studied piano under Betsy Hermann in Okinawa and Randall Love at Duke University on a full scholarship. Anne holds a composition degree and teaching diploma in piano from Utrecht Conservatory. She maintains a blog about cultural economics, creative entrepreneurship, and the business of music.
