Recorded in spurts throughout 2005, "For Those In Orbit" represents an interpretation of various styles of modern American music, including Folk. Pop, Country and Jazz. These song are also a reflection of my time spent living and playing music in two of our most musically iconic cities - New Orleans, LA and Nashville, TN.
The band, comprised mostly of a couple of friends I made on the Open Mic circuit in a little neighborhood called Astoria, have brought a great dynamic to this album. Most of the performances are "live" takes. We wanted to keep the same atmosphere we found when jamming on stage together at Open Mic performances and capture a raw and visceral interpretation of the songs.
The Mandola is featured on this album quite a bit. Played by Bill Kelly, it is essentially a Mandolin, but a little larger and is tuned down a 5th. It lends a great bluegrass/country feel to songs like "Sunburn" and a great counterpoint to "California", which was just a pop song that made a right turn into a jazzy bridge.
