Miles Before is a four-piece rock band from Portland, Oregon. Peppered with jangly guitars, punk-inspired riffs, and sincerely emotional vocals; Miles Before is melodic rock with echoes of early 90’s emo-core and a modern, indie rock twist.

The unique sound can be traced to the eclectic influences each member brings to the table. These include punk rock, straight ahead rock, and even a little folk rock. At recent shows, the band has witnessed both teenagers moshing and 50-somethings slow-dancing. This could either mean that the music completely confounds any interpretation, or that it is appealing to widely differing audiences. Assuming it is the latter, it is a rare thing that a band can connect with people from such varying backgrounds. Miles Before has achieved this through deeply honest and interestingly metaphorical songwriting and a dynamic sound that captures both the anxiety and the ecstasy of everyday life.

The debut, self-titled EP by the band is a showcase of their dynamic qualities. Recorded in June/July of 2005 with Rob Oberdorfer of the Standard, the album has just the right amounts of high energy, melancholy, and catchy melody to keep the listener interested and waiting to see what might lie around the next sonic turn. From the slow, winding melodies of Be Still, to the heavy distortion and powerful vocals of Built on Sand, the album is sure to please those looking for something that will take them back to the days when bands like Archers of Loaf and Fugazi were king.
