“ Natural Discovery” is the latest CD from acoustic fingerstyle guitarist Neil FitzGerald. His complex compositions reflect inner emotion, which translates itself through the voice of the guitar. From driving rhythms to delicate fingerstyle, Neil expresses his passion for playing and writing music in every song he plays.
Neil has been playing the guitar for the better part of his life, but in the last decade found a unique voice for the guitar, inspired by the likes of Will Ackerman, Alex deGrassi and Michael Hedges. Neil has studied in numerous workshops with guitar greats such as Alex deGrassi and Don Ross. Don Ross is considered to be one of the best steel string players in the world.
The songs on Natural Discovery are intended to take the listener to a new place, a new adventure, exploring all the possibilities of the human emotion.
Neil plays in and around his home town of Potsdam, NY where he organizes a weekly live music series at the local Arts Council, set up to support the rich local musical talent. His music has been heard in gallery openings, bookstore settings, the open stage and special events. He plans on touring the St. Lawrence River between Toronto and Montreal this spring and summer as well as compete in the Canadian Guitar Festival in Odessa, Ont.
The entire album was recorded at Neil’s personal studio, which houses Red Horizon Records. A small but growing recording studio dedicated to recording local artists. His next projects include a DVD with wonderful photographs by Randall FitzGerald put to Neil’s music as well as a new cd next summer.
Guest artists on the cd include Gorge Ross on lead acoustic, Bill Vitek on keyboard, Josh Lazo on saxophone and Steve Manders on percussion.
