Spearheaded by enigmatic musician Travis Cthulhu, and accompanied by his band of various revolving Nameless Ones, the Cthulhus exist as quixotic anacrhonism in an increasingly digital world. In a cramped San Fernando apartment, they record on cheap 4-track cassette, their meager weapons are decrepit analog synths, drum machines, toy pianos and lonely surf guitar. Their songs are wistful evocations of science fiction, zombie attacks, and urban decay; of blood, sun, freeways and swimming pools.
Dim echoes of the Ventures, Nancy Sinatra, Sagittarius, the Pink Floyd, post-dub atmospherics of the early PiL, and even the Mystic Moods orchestra reverberate throughout the music of the Cthulhus. Their music is distinctive, yet categorically elusive. Is it dub? Post-punk? Psychedleic? Perhaps its just Cthulhu-delic. You be the judge.
