Haha...this is Joe,these are just my own notes on a little bit of myself and how I found this thing we call music. No editing, no drafts, this is just... how it happened(: ...
I think I was around 4 or so when I started taking piano lessons, but let''s be honest as a 4 yr. old it wasn''t the most exciting thing in the world, so I stopped after 6 months or so. I picked up sports instead and went from soccer and gymnastics to baseball, football, basketball, cross-country and track.(Anyway...) Somewhere between when I was 4-10 I learned the notes on the staff and what sharps and flats meant, then when I was 10 my music teacher in elementary school challenged our whole class to come up with something musical for our school talent show. I decided to play fur elise(Beethoveen), one of the few songs I heard from my Dad on our piano growing up as a kid. I managed to learn it by listening to recordings of it and then trying to match it with what I saw on the sheet music in front of me. Didn''t turn out too bad but I didn''t really enjoy tickling the ivories as much as I enjoyed playing sports and other things.
I put the piano aside until Santa Claus got me some piano books for Christmas. I think the sheet music was to one of Jim Brickman''s albums called Picture This and the other stuff was from some guy called Bach(Which now I''ve come to repect a little more). I didn''t really have a desire to play much of it until I started listening to the CD that went along with the sheet music(Brickman). Mom told me to play it and I picked up a few of the songs by listening and then, again, matching the sound to what I saw in front of me on the sheet music. I occasionally would learn other pieces that other people would ask me to do, but it usually wouldn''t amount up to anything more than a few pieces a year.
It wasn''t until I was about 18 that Marie Young (the lady in charge of the music for my church), challenged me to see if I could make up an arrangement of a church hymn. As soon as I saw it as a challenge and saw that I could make up whatever I wanted instead of doing what the the black and white stuff told me to do, - I began to see music in a different way. I made the arrangement and performed it the next week. She was very persistent to ask me if I could do it with another hymn on one of the following Sundays. It was then, that I began to question to myself whether or not I could do something of my own that wasn''t an arrangement of something I had heard before. I tried coming up with something original and found that I could. As this sparked my interest, I began to create other things and discovered that I really did have a passion for writing or creating music. As soon as I found all that out I spent all of my Senior year in High School dedicating myself to creating music for an album I called Breakthrough that I intended to sell later that year. With the minimal skills I had, I created and sold the album at my first concert "debut" in April 2005. My senior year ended shortly after that and I went to college out east for a year where I studied music on the side (still didn''t really ever think of doing it as a career).
After a year of college, I served as a missionary for my church for 2 years in Sonora, Mexico and discovered a love for teaching. I returned home and went back to school(this time out west) and began preparing to become a High School (social sciences) teacher.
To make the rest of it short I found that I couldn''t not do music. I attended a local concert with the University''s wind symphony and somethin'' in my gut told me(kind of gross I know but...) I knew I wanted to create something just as beautiful as what I heard then.
So here I am. And there you go, ... you wanna know more about me, you know where to find me(https://www.tradebit.com). Look forward to sharin'' some more music and stories with ya''ll soon... Until then...
Nos vemos - Joe
