Born in London by mistake in 1988 as the product of an 80''s pop song-writing mother & an on-tour punk rock father who weren''t together for longer than to conceive him: Jot Maxi has been taken seriously as a lyricist since he was around the age of twelve (2000), when, because of his ability to improvise & roar his heart out - he started recording fast paced metal vocals for different bands.. Though, each various musical project he was involved with either didn''t take off or fell apart due to individual personal issues.
JotMaxi continued to play the drums & experiment with percussion as an outlet for emotion whilst broadening his musical taste from Prince & 80''s beats to Cypress Hill to Korn, Dead Presidents, Blackalicious, Nicky Blackmarket, Roni Size, MC Skibadee & Shabba D to Saul Williams'' spoken word tracks and back again..
...Jot, (real full name; Jot Maxi McNamee) jumped back on the microphone with a massive inspiration & passion fueled by the new millennium''s Dub, 2-Step & Garage evolution: Dubstep & Grime.
In 2001, having recently relocated from the south of England to Northern Ireland, (which needless to say was outside the vicinity of this new music), Jot began listening solidly to ''Pay As You Go Crew'', ''So-Solid'' & ''Roll Deep'' radio clashes, ''More Fire Crew'', ''Wiley, Dizzee Rascal & ''Slimzee'' sets, then later the more Instrumental or Dubstep avenue including ''Plastician'', ''Skream'', ''Benga'' & the many producers who were contributing towards the shaping of these sub-genres rolling at 140bpm.
When it came to lyrics, the sweet and crucial realization happened that most of the stuff Jot had already written went perfectly over the ''Grime'' beats he had suddenly come to love, and it was taken from there. In his own words:
"I believe I was engineered for this new music.. To fire up my own breed of this sound that has just risen so fast since the millennium. When I think about it it just blows me away I actually can''t explain it like.. I remember under 16''s raves in Southend when I would hear Garage and really feel the vibe, but now when I hear what it''s become I almost get taken over (Laughs), I know a lot of lyricists in the genre say things like that ''I was born to do this!'' et cetera, which I believe in most cases is probably true because after all I reckon this sound is a real miracle that has come at just the right time - Next generation motivational sh*t self designed for & by the youth culture of our time, ha!"
The closest thing to Grime that Northern Ireland''s underground music scene had to offer at that time was Drum & Bass, which is obviously a completely different speed & style of sounds.. But due to his versatility & ideal accent, JotMaxi had the opportunity to host various DnB nights in & around Belfast until leaving Northern Ireland for good in 2007.
Having left on bad terms with the law - with outstanding legal proceedings against him, Jot departed the UK altogether & fled to the city of Marseilles, in the south of France... This is where he stayed for the best part of the next three years (2008 - 2010), during which he met Jamalski, a well established MC/Rapper (brought into the game in the early 80''s by ''KRS One'' then later signed to Columbia/Sony Music).
Jamalski & JotMaxi (Bazaar name similarity!) fast became good friends & Jot was shown the door into various corners of Europe''s underground music scene.
JotMaxi went on to perform alongside not only local favorite DJ''s, MC''s & producers, but also well-known international artists such as DJ Vadim, Youngsta, TC & The Foriegn Beggars to name a few.
The most memorable link-up according to Jot was at the Marsatac festival 2008 where he & Jamalski sat to drink with Skream & Benga in the VIP rooms before an unplanned session on stage with them in front of a 2500 strong crowd!
''JotSetRadioFuture Volume 1 - Minimal/Experimental'' was recorded in France & includes more than a couple of tracks that feature Jamalski, and most of the rest include various underground artists from across the EU & USA that are definitely worth checking out.
Jot regrettably describes the disc as "finally being released but pretty damn late".. Whilst at the same time he promises that now he is back in the UK, the next batch of what will be solo material is to be uploaded to stream & listen to free of charge.
Volume 2 of the JotSetRadioFuture CD series is also in the making & set to be a "direct attack" & will fuse JotMaxi''s Rock/Metal vocal-ism with his Grime & Dubstep flows.. A mix-up that hasn''t been attempted before so let''s hope its finished & released before the anticipation kills us all!
