Marcus Briggs-Cloud is a Mekkosuke person of the Maskoke Nation and a son of the Wind Clan people and grandson of the Bird Clan people. He is the partner to Tawna Little, a Kialegee person of the Maskoke Nation who is of the Skunk clan people. Marcus is an elected member to the Board of Directors for the National Tekakwitha Conference, a steering committee member of the American Indian Boarding School Healing Project, and 1 or 6 plaintiffs for the case Blackhorse vs. Profootball to terminate the Washington Pro-Football team mascot; He is also a board member of the U.S. Ecumenical Association of Third World Theologians, a Board Member of Cultural Survival- an NGO that seeks to promote and defend the rights of Indigenous Peoples’ globally, and he has served as the spokesperson for the United Nations Indigenous Youth Caucus to address concerns of Indigenous Language Revitalization. Marcus is a former instructor of Maskoke Language in the Anthropology Department at the University of Oklahoma and is passionate about the youth with whom he worked for two and half years at Norman High School in Oklahoma as a counselor and with whom he involved to produce a 17 minute, 3-time award winning documentary entitled "When It''s Gone It''s Gone" which examines Indigenous language loss and revitalization through the eyes of Indigenous elders. Marcus is a graduate of Harvard University with a Master''s degree in Theological Studies concentrating in: liberation theology, the intersections of Indigenous epistemology and gender theory, and building paradigms for the revitalization of Traditional Maskoke lifeways and language that include decolonizing ideological frameworks. Marcus currently teaches Maskoke language and history at the College of the Muscogee Nation
