I use open tunings exclusively which add an even richer, heavenly texture to the 12 strings. I''m not a fingerstyle guitarist per se but incorporate similar picking patterns using just a flat pick.
The primary motivation for my compositions is to provide a musical vehicle to convey the lush, beautiful sound and nuances of the 12 string guitar to the listener.
