It takes quite a bit of honesty for a rock and roll pianist to realize that he is not a rock star taking over the world, but rather a starving musician just trying to pay the bills with the songs that he plays. The Stolen Instruments''s newest single is songwriter/pianist Ruben Martinez’s account of his journey as a musician, as many others have done, playing clubs and bars night after night just hoping that the tip jar is full at the end of the set. The song contrasts his struggles behind the piano to the seemingly carefree and easy lifestyle of having a steady desk job with a regular paycheck. To each his own, but Martinez’s lyrics do wonders in exploring the benefits he gains from his lifestyle choice. Its music that feeds his soul. So what if there are hard times ahead, the songs will always be there.
The Starving Musician is the first single from the sophomore release LP by The Stolen Instruments. Based in Denver, CO, the band hopes that this album will reach out to all who can grasp it; a song for everyone. Songs of love, heartbreak, struggles and happiness. The 14-track LP has been a labor of love, seven months in the making, produced by the band’s multi-instrumentalist Brett “Guy” Stakelin.
