Emerging from the Knitting Factory scene of the early 90''s, the Sirius String Quartet has been blurring genre lines and challenging traditional ideas of the string quartet for almost two decades. The Sirius combines the idioms and techniques of contemporary classical music with the improvisation and controlled chaos of popular musical styles.
Cityscapes is the second CD of all original material by members of the Sirius family. The first, In Between (SSQ-007-1), featured compositions by our violinist, Gregor Huebner, which explore the space between jazz and classical music.
Joining us on Cityscapes to celebrate the unique and diverse personalities of New York''s musical neighborhoods are the amazing composers and performers Mike Block, Rubin Kodheli, and bass trombonist David Taylor.
