"Legend" Bible Study:
This song comes in two parts for me, but they both are very closely connected. The first part of the song is about depression. A lot of times it feels as if the sun can just disappear from the sky. Even though the brokenness seems like it will last forever, we have to remember that God is still God even in times like those. Jesus always promised us that we would be full to overflowing. The cry of this song is for Him to fill us up so that we overflow, to be surrounded by dry ground, by those who who don''t know Jesus and the completion he brings into your life, so that we can pour into them and that Jesus, who is the Light, would just Light up the darkness in this world.
When we die to ourselves, and come into a relationship with Christ, a lot of times we have to burn bridges of a lifestyle, an addiction, friends that are a bad influence or anything else that hinders us, and for a while that leaves you feeling very alone. Jesus is bigger than that, He is more than enough. Sometimes it feels like you can''t go on one more day, like the burden of life is too hard, just lean on Him. It''s not the truth that rings in your ears when you feel alone and overwhelmed and abandoned, it''s the lies of satan himself making you captive to his destruction. Jesus puts in each of our hearts a message to share with lost in this world, a message that should burn in our hearts so hot that we can''t help but tell about all that we''ve seen and heard (Acts 4:20), so much that it feels that "our lips are burning with words unsaid". But, sometimes we get so focused on ourselves, and our own problems that we get to look beyond to see the whole picture of what God has for us. We need to remember that we are a people of hardened hearts and unclean lips (Isaiah 6:5), that we don''t need to focus on ourselves, but to humbly and passionately ask for Gos to sear our lips and make us holy to carry his Word to a lost and dying people.
"On The Front Lines" Bible Study:
It''s easy to feel defeated in a world of gloom and doom. When we seem surrounded more and more each day by people who hate God and his Word and less by His people. Sometimes it''s hard to remember that He''s not a God who is far away and doesn''t hear our calls and prayers, but a Savior who is standing right next to us on the front lines of the battle we face everyday, fighting in our stead. If we wear the armor (Ephesians 6:10-18), he will fight, and win, the battle for us. Instead of holding on to the gloom and doom, we need to remember that we are more than conquerors through Christ (Romans 8:37)! Never compromise on what God has called you to do, convicted you on or asked you to do or say, stand firm on His Truth and his promises that we are never alone, never unloved and never defeated!
"Centurion''s Rant" Bible Study:
When we wake up in the morning we each have our own routine that unfolds throughout the
day. We have actions we perform without thinking because they have become natural. Most of us
shower or get ready in the morning while we’re still half asleep. The song, Centurion’s Rant, is from
the view point of the soldier who nailed our Savior, Jesus, to the cross. The soldier was used to his
job. Who knows how long he had been going to work or how many people he had hung on a cross to
die. It had become a routine. He didn’t feel anymore. It’s like the first time you get the nerve to talk
to someone; once you do, it becomes easier and easier. After a while you won’t even think about it
and it doesn’t bother you or make you nervous to talk to them. The centurion didn’t budge to do his
job because it was like any other day to him. But Jesus wasn’t and isn’t just any other man. The soldier
says in the song that he’s numb to Christ’s pain and starts to scoff and tell him to use His power to save
himself. Slowly, the centurion loses this attitude as he looks into Christ’s eyes and feels the spirit flood
the hill where Jesus hung dying. By the end of the song the soldier is dreading his job which he knows
he must finish. As he stares at the Lord’s body he shoves the spear into his side. Blood and water hit
him in the face and runs down his arms. The deed is done. Don’t let Christ become a routine to you.
He’s not just some man or prophet who died thousands of years ago and had a great story. I have news
for you…it didn’t end there. Three days later Christ rose and He conquered hell. He’s alive today and is
more real than you could ever imagine.
This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with
the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross. But God raised him from the dead,
freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.
Acts 2:23-24
"Take Me Away" Bible Study:
The story of Job is so much more than just a story of faith. It’s a journey through who God is. Through the pain of Job’s losses, he found the vastness and power of God. “Take Me Away” is a cry to God to empty what s left of our humanity and to strip away all of the junk this life can collect. To be come less, so He can become more. There are always problems in life and there’s no way to get around it. The answer is not in drugs, alcohol, sex, cutting or suicide. The answer is Jesus. Whether or not someone accepts what Jesus did for them He still did it. And it’s for everyone, free of charge. We must come to the realization that God is God. Job 42:2 sums it up very well, “I know that You, God can do anything and no one can stop You.”. Our prize is waiting for us in Heaven. Eternity with our Creator awaits all who receive the gift of Jesus and what He did on the cross. “Take Me Away” is a longing for Jesus to return, He’s not coming back as a baby this time, but as a conquering King and Judge. Prepare yourself. Pray for brokenness and you will find the Father. (The Book of Job.)
