Devine is an American heavy metal / Hard Rock Band blending elements of Rock, Hard Core, Metal, and Hip-Hop. However, this band is unique for more than just their sound but also in their peculiar arrangement. The band not only remains spread out over the United States but for nearly a year, and after a completed recording no one in the band had ever been in the same room!
The band started as an experimental project. The internet has unquestionably made significant changes to the music business for better and worse, but here is new twist to the evolution of music. The goal was to prove that while the internet may make it more difficult for musicians to make as much money creating music but it may also make it possible to bring more musicians together to expand the possibilities of the creative process.
Its Core members; Drummer Chris Cahill (Maryland), and guitarist Tony Kordish (Pennsylvania) both came together looking for a new project that was not bound by proximity. Reaching out to former band member of Chris Cahill they added bassist and engineer Shawn Daley (Ohio) in 2008 to create the core elements of the band but additional members were needed. The band, hosted online auditions, web based contest, and craigslist solicitations to narrow down hundreds of submissions to add Male guitarist and vocalist Cory Simo (Ohio), and female melodic vocals from Kim Dimarco (Florida).
In 2009 the band released the demo “Built To Win” featuring Hip Hop styling’s from guest member Shawn Nize (Texas). (All recorded online) and indie sites such as Reverb Nation still have them at the top of the charts regionally. After finding a studio that was up for the challenge of recoding long distance the band has completed its first professional album “14 Steps To Stone” due to be released early in 2011. Maintaining the integrity of the project the entire recording was done using chartrooms, and email!
While the band does unite to play live shows, it has successfully new possibilities with in the music business and hopefully opened the door to bigger things to come.
