This CD features music spanning two centuries and three countries. Music by John Dowland (1563-1626), Robert Ballard (ca.1575-ca.1645), Giovanni Zamboni (https://www.tradebit.comly 18th c.), and Giorgio Scotti (fl. late 18th c.), plus an anonymous concerto from the Filippo dalla Casa Manuscript (1759) are played on three different instruments: seven-course Renaissance lute, ten-course Renaissance lute, and archlute.

Hideki Yamaya is a guitarist and lutenist who has been active as a performer and teacher in California for over 10 years. He is currently active in the Los Angeles/Orange County area. He has a B.A. in Music and an M.A. in Ethnomusicology from University of California, Santa Cruz, and an M.F.A. from University of California, Irvine, in Guitar and Lute Performance. He is an internationally acclaimed musician and has performed in Canada, Japan, Great Britain, and Italy.
Hideki is a specialist in early music and performs on the lute and other early plucked strings, including renaissance and baroque lutes, archlute, baroque guitar, and theorbo. In addition to studying lute at UC Irvine, he also studied at the prestigious Accademia Internazionale della Musica in Milan, Italy. In addition to early music, Hideki plays flamenco and Latin American guitar styles.
