The Up and Down is a four piece out of the San Francisco Bay Area. Carlo is the song writer, lead vocals and bass. John handles the guitar as well as back up vocals. Will covers drums and is the one behind the harmonies on the vocals. Chris is the latest addition with a banjo and steel drum as well as backing vocals.
We started out as a loud rock three piece band but started to practice in Will''s (who is an avid home beer brewer) living room with acoustic instruments to save money on a rehearsal space. We started to really hear ourselves without a wall of amps and the sound started to head in a more country / americana direction. Without the wall of sound it felt a little empty so we invited Chris to join the band. The banjo was a easy fit to the new sound but the Steel Drum ended up being a lot of fun. It has a keyboard kind of sound but is lot more interesting to watch visually on stage. We still play some loud electric shows and Chris has to pound away on the steel drum and use a electric banjo through a marshall.
We are in this for the fun of it.
