The Chris Stephen Project is comprised of five regular guys who are anything but that when they lead others in worship. The lead singer, Chris Stephen, has been at or near the center of the Tampa worship scene since the middle of 2007, having worked at a mega-church in Tampa as the student worship leader as well as being a fixture at different worship rallies, student and college events, and adult services across the area."Worship is an active lifestyle in the world that we live in. It''s the living, breathing Word of God flowing in us and through us as we walk this world, bringing light to the darkest places for Jesus Christ." ,Chris Stephen says. As a singer/songwriter, Chris brings a freshness in his music and in his persona that clearly comes from a fresh and consistent walk with God. Because of this, God has opened doors to bring him from a place of relative obscurity and turn him into one of Christian Music’s up and comers.
"The Chris Stephen Project started out as just an idea involving myself and a recording project I was working on. Little did I know that God was planting a seed in my head and my heart, and that seed started to grow. People ask all the time, ''Why the name The Chris Stephen Project?'' God continued to grow this idea in my heart and head and it turned out that God was showing me and constantly reminding me, and the guys in the band, that we are projects in God''s wonderful hands. He is constantly shaping us, molding us and fine tuning us for His ultimate use. So the name represents the fact that we are not perfect but that God ultimately is shaping us for His use.", Chris says.
In a Christian Music scene where worship music has become a new way to “make it big”, it’s refreshing to find a young, talented artist who’s only desire is to lead others towards their Creator, and not towards the artist. When asked about leading worship, Chris passionately states, “The true heart of a worship leader is not putting on a rocking performance or indulging in self promotion. The heart of a worship leader is leading people - young and old, of all different races and languages - into the presence of God. And this is what we as the Chris Stephen Project are all about.” After spending a little time around the guys and experiencing them leading others in worship, you truly get the sense that their only priority is making a big deal about a big God.
