Nigel has put together an energetic and fun band of musicians to deliver to you an eclectic collection of well known standards with a excitingly fresh approach.
The wide variety of songs challenge any categorisation of the music but if anything one could hear a likeness to such children’s entertainers as ‘The Wiggles’, ‘Sharon, Lois and Bram’ and even ‘Raffi’. The material definitely appeals to the young and old alike and will get your feet tapping in no time at all.
The CD came about due to the many requests from Nigel’s clients in his day to day capacity working in the music therapy field where he has made his living for the past five years.
Nigel feels blessed that he can earn his daily bread by using the power of music to bring love and well-being into peoples lives. Nigel can be found doing his rounds at the long term care facilities and group homes of Ottawa where on a given day, he sings and plays his guitar to young adults with developmental disabilities and seniors at varying stages of dementia.
He has been involved in music all his life and started as a drummer in rock bands in the Liverpool area in England, circa 1960''s. He worked in the engineering profession in England, Israel and Canada for 25 years until the crash of 2002 when he decided to pursue his passion and enrolled himself in a music degree at the University of Ottawa.
Nigel and His Musical Friends -Volume 1 has been receiving rave reviews and work is underway for the band to return to the studio for Volume 2. Meanwhile Nigel has plans to create a CD with his own compositions.

“Do you have a CD?” That was a persistent question I got from many of my clients. One client in particular, wheelchair bound, would hammer out “CD” on his message board at every one of our bi-weekly group sessions. He got so much pleasure from our one hour together that he wanted to re-live the uplifting experience whenever he wanted. I finally realized that maybe others could enjoy hearing my singing on a CD when they chose to as well.
It became evident there was a market for the CD because of the positive feedback I received when I mentioned the idea to other people. So finally, in September of 2006, I entered the recording studio with a vision for the album.
My objective was to create something that reinforced my work and helped to re-create the uplifting and joyful sessions I’d had the honour and good fortune to deliver to my clients.
Deciding on a mere handful for this, my first CD offering, was a challenge. There are so many beautiful songs I use in my practice. To make the music more interesting and fun we have arranged our own creative interpretations of these often heard songs.
The variety of the songs I have included reflect the wide cross section of human souls I encounter everyday. My clients come from a multitude of different ethnic and cultural backgrounds and the variety of songs I’ve included reflects that. When the music starts, my clients, from babies to octogenarians, are engaged by its soothing and subtle power. They are transported to a different time or space with just a few bars of melody.
I feel privileged to be able to earn my daily bread singing, playing and being in a close relationship with some of the most loving, open and playful people on the planet.
My wish is that you the listener enjoy our offering as much as we have enjoyed creating it for you.
