Details:
Miserlou are named after a tune made famous by Dick Dale and Pulp Fiction. Even among the most ardent surf-sound afficionados, few are aware that the song was originally a Macedonian tune about an Egyptian princess. It was then picked up by the Klezmer community and featured in countless folk and swing versions before crossing the ocean and being turned into a surf-guitar hit. As a band, we have taken that trajectory as our model. Our songs are rooted in the folk music of Eastern Europe and the Balkans, but infused with our own origins and influences. These include klezmer, ska, folk, punk, salsa and jazz. And while many of our musical role models come from Balkan brass, it''s the sound of the sax that inspires us and which gives this album its unique flavour. The album title "Lungo Drom" comes from the Roma language and means "the road is long". Think Cormac McCarthy, think Sam Cooke. We dedicate our music to the struggle for a better world and the preservation and cherishing of the one we live in. Peace to you, and enjoy!
