"Whole in My Soul" is an album of exuberance and energy in which Miss Kristin explores the joys and disappointments of life with songs direct from the heart.

"Whole In My Soul" opens with the title track, a sweet refrain uplifting both musically and lyrically. Enhanced by the sounds of children playing, it creates a feeling of innocence, joy and longing all at once, which seems to set an undertone for the album. This track is then juxtaposed with “Can You See” and its driving beat and come-hither lyrics that challenge one to let down their defenses and open up to love. It is an idea expressed well by Miss Kristin: love is there for us if we would only open ourselves up to it.

Of course love and life are not without their share of difficulties and heartbreak. “The Whole World Knows” features some tasty guitar work from Tom Landry that mingles skillfully with the vocals to cut a nice groove. This is a beautiful song about the sobering reality of a love gone bad and the difficult task of having to face a world that knows. A sad subject matter to be sure, but the sensitivity of the lyrics that reaffirm one’s self-worth in the face of heartbreak is ultimately inspiring.

The slow, bluesy “The Voyager” and the uptempo “Show Me What Love Is” with its jagged, angry guitar chords; seem to explore the individual navigating their way through life’s inevitable pitfalls and disappointments.

Following is the introspective “Loneliness and Poverty” with a sweeping backdrop of strings that weave with the vocal tracks to great effect. This is the inner loneliness and poverty that arise when our desires are not fulfilled, with the only way out to just “let it go”.

"Next Time”, is a heady brew with a funky beat, syncopated percussion and a sprinkling of banjo for added vitality. This song is all about perseverance, doing one’s best, and knowing that you’re going to get it together. As it gets into your system it will have your foot tapping and your face beaming in no time.

"Whole in My Soul" is a rewarding listen, full of musical diversity, good song writing and themes that are central to all of our lives. Maybe foremost among them is the endeavor to open up and let our emotions flow true, a state epitomized by the sound of children at play. That would help us all become more whole in our souls.
