MP3 The Oyster Murders - Lovers Who Drink the Sea

Ambient guitars, broken mellotron sounds contrasting with delicate male and female vocals are at the heart of this latest offering from The Oyster Murders. This is sweet melancholy music with good pop-sensibilities.

Details:
The Oyster Murders from it’s inception have been an ambitious group, which has transposed into their music. Never feeling the necessity to play within their means; songs are given the freedom to expand and even transform overtime. This becomes exacerbated by the recording process, where quite often the original song can be entirely rewritten from the ground up.

The newest episode of ambient pop goodness, Whatever became of Marie St. Clair?, was recorded in what was formerly a rural church with ARIA award winning producer, Magoo. Final production touches were done by Steve Fallone who has previously worked with such artists as TV On The Radio, Sonic Youth and The Strokes. There is something about a renovated old church that just fits in with The Oyster Murders sound, that has nothing to do with organs, but maybe a little to do with ghosts and choirs. The recording process was a whirlwind few weeks, compared to the band’s usual meticulous and time consuming efforts. The songs were changed by the experience, as the pieces were nearly fully formed before setting foot in the studio. The result is the most mature and confident music released by the band to date.

The album reads like a band that has fully fleshed out a musical style of their own, but isn''t afraid to stretch their boundaries. The music is eerily sweet like a thick cough syrup, with the new songs off the album having a distinctly oceanic feel. With sweeping vocals rolling out across an apocalyptic shore. Sounds from the album have been inspired by a passion for unusual and analogue instruments, that arose from experimentation in the studio. This is sweet melancholy music with good pop-sensibilities.

The Oyster Murders are currently based in Australia and consists of a few key members Grant Redgen who plays guitar and lead vocals and Shaun Edwards on drums. The band also enlists the talents of a rotating roster of musical collaborators. This recent expansion from a live three- piece came about as a response to an increased complexity of the music being written. Collaborators currently in the line-up are Daniel Wighton on guitar and keys, Wendy James providing harmonies and piano, Chris Macpherson on bass and Adam Buchanan making some pretty intense and appealing sounds on whatever he gets his hands on.

Singles off the upcoming album currently include "Lovers Who Drink the Sea" and "Signs"
