Details:
Not even the absence of his father could stop him from pursuing his dreams.

Jason Rankin, up to this day, has no idea what his father looks like, hence the title of his first single Wasn''t There.

Rankin was born in Spanish Town, St Catherine, and his sole provider was his mother who ensured that he was kept on the right path.

Since graduation, he has been pursuing a musical career under the moniker Sly Rankin.

After sitting his Common Entrance Examinations, he passed for Wolmer''s Boys, excelled in school and graduated with six CXC subjects including two distinctions.

He then went on to sixth form, where he achieved three A'' Level subjects.

majoring in Finance

Rankin''s achievements didn''t stop there, as he applied to the University of the West Indies and they answered.

"I went to UWI and I started out majoring in finance, after a year I switched to literature, where I went on to graduate with a bachelor''s degree in literature and philosophy," he said.

Rankin, reminisced on the earlier days when he started to fully indulge in music.

"While in high school the passion for music developed, and as you know, music is already in our blood from birth as we are exposed to reggae and dancehall," he pointed out.

Fusing reggae and dancehall with hip hop, Rankin has a unique style and blend.

"The only difference between hip-hop, reggae and dancehall is the accent, so with me constantly travelling back and forth between Brooklyn, New York and Jamaica, I mastered the art of both," he said.

He, along with Keton ''Solji'' Cole, CEO of Solja Life Records, last year launched a campaign to promote an album.

The first single off the the debut album titled Jamaican Pride has been getting heavy rotations on stations overseas and locally. The video for the song has been getting rotation on RE TV.

"It''s a Jamaican link-up, everyone in the connection has Jamaican ties, hence the Jamaican Pride theme, we are proud of our achievements," Cole said.

"With the crossover of some dancehall artistes, and dancehall''s presence growing stronger, Rankin''s style is bound to find favour with the followers of Jamaican music," he said.

Both Rankin and Cole are aiming for the sky and have the same goals, growing as a unit and spreading the music, spanning all genres.
