Hello fellow teachers, parents, and former students. Yes we are still teaching in our respective school districts here in Southern Illinois (Mrs. Hayman in Alton & myself in Collinsville). Over the years I have written a few songs for classroom instruction, media center promotion, and general advocacy for public education. I am a professional educator and librarian who can play a few chords and integrate that ability to fit my professional purposes. Educator Folk (soon to be released) is the audio documentation of a few lessons during my instructional life as a teacher and school librarian. All songs were written in response to real educational/instructional activities that I have led in the classroom over the past 10 years. It is goofy, fun, and adolescent. In the classroom, they key is to challenge and involve the students in the performance, production, and improvisation of the song. Encouraging students to add response lyrics will engage them in a way that is meaningful and exciting. I live for the moments when students come up with great ideas and their realization of ownership and joy.
I will continue to release new songs as they are created and release them as singles available for digital download until I have enough for a second album. So, if you wish there was a song for Mitosis or Algebraic Equations, don''t hesitate to request one for your specific need to use in the classroom or library.
