Before home recording, before digital audio technology, before the invention and evolution of the Internet, before CD''s, even before the term or words "Indie band", before Montreal Canada became world renowned for its underground Indie band scene, before Montreal''s premiere Indie band, Arcade Fire won the top award at the 2011 Grammy awards, there was a pioneer Indie band from Montreal called - Emerald City.
Matt Enright on guitar and vocal, George Gardos on bass and Pat Saraceno on drums. Emerald City wrote and played their own material. EC were full time musicians struggling in the era of the big record deal controlled by the monopoly of the few big business record companies of the day. Against all odds, EC found an obscure recording studio in Montreal and with a couple hundred dollars saved up from playing live gigs, the boys financed and recorded what they had thought to be a demo tape.
What had started out to be a demo tape ended up being a 10 song record that was pressed on vinyl, played at 33rpm on a record playing machine known as an LP record, titled "Waiting for the Dawn".
Partnering up with the independent record label, Hippopotamus Records, EC purchased their own records at wholesale price and sold them at their gigs. Since the band business has now become very sophisticated, this is now called merchandising. When the pioneer''s EC did it, it was called surviving through ingenuity and ambition.
Over the years that followed, these vinyl records of Emerald City from Montreal have found their way into the record world''s underground market. Collectors, used record dealers, enthusiasts, obscure record traders, as well as era curiosity seekers have kept interest alive in a young pioneer Indie band from Montreal known as Emerald City.
Now the original vinyl record titled " Waiting for the Dawn" has been re-mastered to CD. Also included is a "live" era set transferred from a mono reel to reel tape machine that was running off the bands PA system in the day.
This remastered LP and "live" set on CD is now available to you at a reasonable price. Over the years original vinyl copies of "Waiting for the Dawn" have sold for as high as $1,000.00.
