DJ Earl-E and Prose have been making music together since 1992, as elements of different group efforts, collaborating on each others solo projects, and rocking tons of live shows. In 2000, Earl-E made a permanent move to Southern California and the duo started recording as much as possible, naturally calling the group E.P. (Earl-E and Prose). They put in several sessions at 6 Point Studios in Gardena, CA from August 2000 to March 2001 and completed about 10-12 songs. The two dropped a limited edition vinyl pressing of "Right," "Thangs," and "Word to the Mutha," (which later appeared on Earl-E''s Environ Mentalz album), and then an E.P., EP-is-odes, was self-released that summer on the crew''s newly formed 20 Kliks Records label.
The tracks nearly faded into obscurity as the DJ and MC moved on to new projects, mixtapes, and collaborations with live bands, but have since resurfaced in the digital age. With the rise of the internet, this underground hip-hop duo has utilized online media to grow its fan base, and the demand for the classic material is unbelievable. The EP-is-odes 10th Anniversary Edition includes the full-length, 2001 version of the 7 song E.P., one brand new song "The Sound and the Fury," new remixes, and alternate takes that have never seen the light of day.
DJ Earl-E and Prose can be seen rocking stages with Venice based dubtronic group Rage Area when they aren''t in the studio. In 2007, Prose released Life Sentences, produced with Earl-E, and then a self-produced E.P., For the Record, in 2009. DJ Earl-E has released three solo albums, Breaka Don (1998), Environ Mentalz (2003), and Wax Onomatopoeia (2009).
