Details:
Let it Go was originally released on Canadian singer songwriter Phil Cousins'' debut CD, Heaven''s Gate in 2005 as an acoustic guitar backed folk tune. The song features a positive message of personal liberation through forgiveness of self and others. The guitar riff was inspired by Zimbabwean musicians such as the Bhundu Boys and Thomas Mapfumo. In 2008 Phil met Chris Stewart, husband of roots reggae singer Alecia Cowan, in a beach bar while vacationing in Long Bay, Jamaica. A musical pact was formed to release a reggae single together and Let it Go jumped out as the song they wanted to work on. Alecia took the original lyrics and added some of her own including a righteous chorus. The pair then built up the recorded tracks over long distance, recording in the UK, Jamaica and Canada. Tapping their global networks, Alecia and Phil assembled a fine cast of backing musicians, namely:
Paul Kastick -drums (Maxi Priest)
Mitch Girio – guitar, keys, bass
Nicole Burt-backing vocals
Deron Franklin-bass & keyboard
Alecia Cowan –keyboard
Phil Cousins – guitar
The track was mixed and produced by Mitch ''King Kong'' Girio at Slaughterhouse 754 in Toronto
Recorded at Skycrew Studio in London UK & Sound Market in Halifax, Canada
Special thanks to Leebert ''Gibby'' Morrison in Jamaica
Mastered by J. Lapointe at Archive Mastering in Halifax, Canada
