ABOUT KELLY ROSSUM
“Rossum is gifted to a philosophical level of musical understanding” – Jazz Improv Magazine.

Having recently performed free-jazz in Bangkok with a quartet of Russian and Thai musicians, Kelly Rossum has traveled around the world to deliver his music to a new audience. He is building a reputation as a creative force in the definition of modern jazz. It is difficult to describe his style as anything but unique; combining the traditions of swing, bop, and free-jazz with the innovations of electronica, ambient, and trance music. Kelly’s award winning release, RENOVATION (612 Sides), was released in 2004.

“RENOVATION chosen as one of the 10 best local albums of 2004. Renovation remains a warm-hearted, smartly eclectic outing from versatile and simpatico players.” – City Pages, Year in Music Issue.

“Twin Cities Critics Tally: The Top 20 local albums of 2004. Trumpeter Rossum’s second CD with his all-star jazz quintet has modern, innovative flavor but never falls too far from the Miles tree.” – Chris Riemenschneider, Minneapolis Star Tribune.

ABOUT LINE
“The leader [Rossum] has an impressive command of his horn… If this is the musical path that Kelly Rossum has chosen to tread, it will be interesting to see where it leads.” – International Trumpet Guild Journal

From the Liner Notes of LINE: “Art contains many lines; they linger long after their creation. Lines of motion, melodies and thought are intertwined on this offering. Follow the lines…” - Kelly Rossum

“Here, he has brought together a cooperative quintet made up of members of the Twin Cities’ burgeoning improvised music community, who delicately hedge the lines between inside and outside playing. LINE is not a mere directional indicator or divisional tactic; it is a marker of points between which many things can occur, points appearing repeatedly with open actions and experiences between them. Kelly Rossum, Chris Thomson, Woody Witt, Chris Bates and J.T. Bates have gone far beyond the canvas in applying LINE.” - Clifford Allen, contributor to All About Jazz
