Details:
Chicago based Singer/Songwriter Wes Kirkpatrick steps out from folk-rock duo The Kirkpatrick Project to make his solo debut on Naps & Nightmares.

Recorded with Chad Weis (tour manager and sound engineer for Martin Sexton, Mason Jennings, Ben Kweller) at his new Minneapolis studio “The Devil’s Workshop” in 2009, Naps & Nightmares is “the album I’ve been trying to make,” says Wes. “A lot of love, hard work, good times and not so good times went into it. I stuck with it until it was exactly the way I wanted it to be. I didn’t want to rush this one.”

Spending the evenings at Weis’ former studio, “the kind of building that you were always looking over your shoulder as you weaved down the long creaky hallways,” Wes named his album after his experience.
“I would have this reoccurring dream that I woke to the silhouette of a guy standing over and staring at me,” he recounts, “After the dreams I''d just lie awake for what seemed like hours. So during the day, I’d have to nap during any downtime in recording.”

A few months following the recording, “my guitar player asked about the writing of several songs, and it led to us talking about the crazy nightmares. We would refer to the recording as a bunch of naps and nightmares, which stuck.”
Those sleepless nights produced some of the albums most potent material including “Vertigo,” “Where You Are” and “Chicago,” a farewell to his family/friends in Denver. “Colorado was really good to me, but I felt that a change might push me as a musician.”

Shortly after moving to Chicago, Wes opened a sold out show for HANSON at The House of Blues. He’s also shared the stage with the likes of Martin Sexton, The Wood Brothers, HANSON, Stephen Kellogg & The Sixers, John Butler Trio, JJ Grey & Mofro, Todd Snider, Matthew Mayfield, Jonah Smith and Jay Nash to name a few.

Reviews:

-“Wes Kirkpatrick is hard not to like. His vocals are warm and inviting, his music sounds like he’s having a lot of fun recording it, he’s got enough talent to make him endearing and he knows how to use it. Wes has created a very solid album that will please fans of singer/songwriter music. If you’re a fan of artists like Ron Sexsmith, John Mayer, or others in the genre, this would be well worth your time and you’ll certainly find something to love about Naps & Nightmares.”

-“Naps & Nightmares is a welcome mix of dusty Americana and rock. Certain tracks hint at Ryan Adams or Jeffrey Foucault without losing Kirkpatrick’s own distinctive sound.”
