Details:
It all started with an invitation to Greece, where Plumerai was asked to participate in a brief tour for Muzine Magazine’s Anniversary celebrations. Upon their return to the US, the band got straight to work on writing and recording new songs inspired by the experience and excitement. However, life gets in the way as it is known to do and the process would get sidelined when longtime drummer, Todd Richards, would no longer be able to make the commute from Upstate NY to Boston, MA. A search for a replacement began and soon, new drummer, Ben Dicke, was recruited. Shortly after breaking him in with a few local shows and a tour down the east coast, the process of writing and recording got revved up again.

For “Your Guilty Prize”, Plumerai decided to forego their usual home studio and began tracking in the former Masonic Temple turned recording studio, 1867 Recording Studio in Chelsea, MA. With two sessions Plumerai locked down the basic tracks for the album and brought the recordings back to their Home Studio (D-4) for overdubs and embellishments. Post-production was actually taken more seriously this time around with the album being mixed by Roost Frequency in Raleigh, NC by Wes Gillespie a friend and sometimes partner of Radical-9 (whom remixed many early Plumerai songs) and then Mastered at New Alliance back in Cambridge, MA. “Your Guilty Prize” is by far the best sounding recording Plumerai has done and the most accurate representation of what they sound like live. Musically, it’s a logical extension of their previous releases (res cogitans, Without Number) with the addition of Ben Dicke’s more flamboyant drumming style noticeable on the epic opening track “Strike”. Much like their previous releases, once the album kicks off, it’s a journey from the post-punk style to alternative guitar effect laden rock, even warped jazzy rock of title track “your guilty prize” and more psychedelic experimentation with “Painted Faces”, “When You Come Around” and the closing track “Vacant Eyes II”. It’s all brought together under the umbrella of the sultry and soulful singing of Elizabeth Ezell. Once again she croons out to the listeners with a voice remenisceint of an aching heart.
The CD is presented in covers that were hand screened with a Japanese Gocco Screen Print Kit and limited to a quantity of 300. It’s currently available through Darushka-4 via Bandcamp (https://www.tradebit.com). Keeping in tune with industry trends, Plumerai decided on a specialty limited edition CD accompanied by a digital only release as the way to go with “Your Guilty Prize”. With concert attendance and CD sales down, this was their compromise to still get a physical product into the hands of those that desire them and to give long time fans something special, while still keeping in tune with the times in which we live.
Plumerai was formed in 2005 in Boston, MA by brothers Martin and James Newman. They were quickly signed by start-up label Get Nice Records, which released their first self-titled CD. After a personnel change, the addition of Elizabeth Ezell on vocals and Todd Richards on drums, the band signed to Silber Records and released ‘res cogitans’ followed by a brief tour and then the full-length “Without Number” followed by even more touring and several compilation and minor releases, including the 2008 split 7” w/ fellow New England band The Brother Kite. Today with a new line-up the band presents their new album “Your Guilty Prize”.
