Details:
Marc Unger is a pastor, military Chaplain and Christian recording artist.
Marc began his professional music career at the age of 14. As a drummer, lead singer, 12-string guitarist and blues harmonica player, Marc led his own bands in Bronx, New York through high school. At age 17-1/2, Marc moved to Woodstock, New York and became the House Drummer at the Elephant Café where he played with the likes of: Paul Butterfield Blues Band, David Sanborn, Buzzy Feetin, Santana, Van Morrison, Martha Velez and Her Amazing Jungle Band and Happy and Artie Traum. During this time, Marc also hand wrote, taking musical dictation, all the sheet music for a 44-pice mini symphony orchestra for the Colombia Masterworks album entitled Moondog.
Later, Marc moved to California and played drums for Pat Upton and Spiral Staircase. He toured with different bands including The Marc Unger Show, always featured as a drum soloist. To improve his drumming technique, Marc studied for a year with Hank Bellson, brother of the late, great drummer, Louie Bellson.
In Kansas City, in the mid-seventies, Marc played drums for the late Leroy Searcy and His All Stars at the Drum Room of the President Hotel in downtown Kansas City for 1-1/2 years. During this time, he also played a stint with the Tony DiPardo Orchestra and backed the likes of: Red Skelton, Frankie Lane and Pat Paulson.
In October of 1982, Marc met the Person who would change his life. He met Jesus Christ. Since that time, he has led Christian worship and writes Christian music. He became a pastor in 1984.
On May 25, 2004, Marc and Lynda’s son, SPC Daniel Paul Unger of the California Army National Guard, gave his life while saving two Iraqi civilian contractors at Camp Kalsu, Iraq. Marc is now a military Chaplain and served the Infantry and, currently, the Field Artillery as Battalion Chaplain. Marc, with his son David on the drums, and others, put this album together to honor his son Daniel and prays it will be a blessing to all who hear it. Freedom is worth defending but freedom is not free! It cost Daniel his life. Listen in on this proud, faith-based, patriotic album and share it with our troops and those who appreciate what freedom costs.
