Details:
The Baronic’s surf rock adventure starts at the beginning of 1996 when Patrick Kelly and Olivier Martin choose to revive those nerdy looking musicians with glasses and turtlenecks who were Ralph Mashats’ sidemen some ten years earlier. Part of Quebec’s alternative scene, Ralph et les Baronics come to the fore in the middle of the 80’s with the song “On a marché sur la lune” and the release of several music videos broadcast on Montreal’s Musique Plus.

At that time, Olivier has just been through musical experiences with Les Taches (1991-92) and the surf band Les Jaguars (1993-95). As for Patrick, he has already been playing professionally for some years with such stalwarts of the Quebec musical scene such as Léandre, Francine Raymond and Kashtin.

Right from the start, Les Baronics get on with the realization of the concept that led to their revival, that is: adapting and arranging pieces from the great classical composers (Bach, Mozart, Vivaldi, Beethoven) all the while respecting the parameters of the surf rock instrumental style (vintage guitars, tube amplifiers, reverb and tremolo effects). Whether in the quartet or trio format, the surf group is also intent on playing in clubs and “in” parties revisiting pieces from the rock or surf repertoire from the 50’s and 60’s (The Ventures, Dick Dale, The Shadows, to name just a few).

The fruit of work that spread over several months, Get Bach is recorded in November of ’96 and released in April 1997 at The Jello Bar in Montreal. A promotional tour follows including the city of Montreal by way of Quebec and Toronto. Also, in the fall of ’97, Les Baronics record standards, themes and surf rock instrumentals, part of their live act. Exposition, released in February of 1998, contains that assortment of various fun, theme and mood pieces.

In the course of 1998, the band still delivers live performances at festivals, corporate events and private parties. But it would be no mistake to claim that a first chapter in the surf experience of The Baronics is now nearing its end. The “classico-surf” album concept now being a reality, The Baronics will now focus more on accomplishing their respective musical projects.

In 1999, the group no longer plays live anymore and now focuses on studio work. Frédéric Brunel, one of the original Baronics, is called upon as reinforcement and rejoins the fold. Together they record Trains and Boats and Planes on the compilation CD “That’s New Pussycat”, a surf tribute to Burt Bacarach released in June 2000.

In 2003, at the request of none other than Phil Dirt, the King of Surf Radio of Reverb Central (Santa Cruz, CA) fame, Les Baronics get together once again in the studio to record “Coming Back to You” to be released on an upcoming tribute album to californian surf guitarist Ritchie Allen.

From 2003 to 2005, in their spare time, Patrick Kelly and Olivier Martin proceed to remix several tracks from their CD Exposition. Later on, from 2006 to 2008, Olivier Martin had joined a new surf rock band called Danny Twang (studio recording of the "Stereo" CD and live performances) and and is also presently involved with the Montreal rock band "Méchant Son".

Since 2008, Patrick Kelly plays guitars for Cirque du Soleil in the permanent show called Zed based in Tokyo Japan.

To this day, what with the advent of specialized internet radio and music networks, the timeless music of Les Baronics is still arousing tremendous interest for an ever growing number of amateurs.

Since 2010, watch out die hard fans or music lovers: Get bach reedited is now available !!!
