A funky folk-pop fusion.

12 MP3 Songs
POP: Folky Pop, FOLK: Folk Pop

Details:
In November of 2000, Michelle Rasky launched her first CD, "what i meant to say," a funk-folk-pop fusion of 12 original compositions. Co-produced by Michelle and musician/engineer Ben Grossman, the album generated airplay on CBC and college radio stations across Canada. "Listening to Rasky''s debut album . . . one hears a subtle, dynamic and mature musician. Divided into both solo and full-band efforts, the album beautifully showcases Rasky''s craft." (Keith Carman, Annex Gleaner)

"Your Love''s Like Spring," Michelle''s latest release, marks her growth as a songwriter and lyricist. It is a "beautiful album with great singing, really inviting, dynamic songs and inventive production." (Dan Bryk, Songwriter) Incorporating elements of jazz and soul with a unique ear for phrasing, her voice seems to effortlessly push and pull at the rhythms of a line, delivering each word with emotional potency. Michelle likes to get inside a lyric. Her songs are full of rich imagery and subtle wit. They explore the complexities of relationships, politics and the simplicity of love with depth, poignancy and insight. Her musical back-drop is colourful; an upbeat swing-jazz inspired number, a ballad with country-folk flair; a pop-driven tale with an infectious chorus. The result is fresh, coherent and engaging.

"The new record is a surprising, fresh CD, full of airy references to earlier pop music, but with a charming, direct, modern feel." (Richard Flohil, Toronto''s premiere promoter) Produced by Michelle with assistance from her engineer Brian D''Oliveira, "Your Love''s Like Spring" is comprised of 10 original songs. The work features her band mates Ed Roman on bass, Ilios Steryannis on drums and artists such as Kurt Swinghammer, Luke Doucet (Veal, Sarah McLachlan), Kevin Fox (Sarah Harmer), Anne Lindsay, Sarah McElcheran (Hawksley Workman, Sarah Slean) and Juno award winner Paul Neufeld (NOJO).
