Details:
Apocalypse Later On started out to be a surf band with vocals. As with any band, the quirks and influences of the three members took it from there and created music that is energetic, fun, and not a surf band with vocals. Major influences are The Police, Bauhaus, Wall of Voodoo, and The B-52''s, usually put through a surf filter. While most of the lyrics are tongue in cheek, it may well be that the teeth are biting hard on the tongue while there. In a post 9/11 world, the songs, which were written pre-event, eerily have some allusion of a forecast of things to come.
The standout tracks include: Spy vs. Spy with its classic Ben Gunn flavored guitar riff, the lyrics describe the duality of espionage and sexuality. Fine, Fine Mess starts out with slow swamp groove and quickly kicks in to an in your face rocker that has never made the waggling of the finger more gratifying. The moody Kiss and Tell gives the listener a vivid accounting of love and deception that evolves into the redemption of self. The creepy vibe of the undeniably mesmerizing Chum will put you under the spell of an identity thief bent on adopting your life to his own merriment.
Enjoy the slide.
