14 MP3 Songs
WORLD: Native American, GOSPEL: Traditional Gospel
Details:
Their foundation is the hymns that have been sung for generations in the Nishnaabemowin (Native Ojibwe) Language at the Back Settlement of The Walpole Island First Nation. Walpole Island is unceeded Native Land in the Great Lakes region between the U.S. and Canada .
With harmony singing and a variety of acoustic instruments such as the guitar, ukulele, mandolin, acoustic steel guitar, harmonica and bass these fellows go beyond merely preserving these songs but deliver them in a fresh, vibrant style all their own.
An understanding of the Native Language isn''t neccessary to enjoy the Back Settlement''s music that translates into a feeling that may urge you to get up and dance or pause and reflect on a heartfelt moment.
Their stated purpose is the continuation of their language, hymns and acoustic music not to be confined to their community but to be shared with others as well.
Their performance stages vary from an intimate cafe'' in Toronto to the sound theaters at various casinos. They can be found as well at other First Nations community gatherings or maybe at an elder''s home for a performance in their living room.
The Back Settlement''s music is meant to be enjoyed by all, especially students of the Nishnaabemowin (Native Ojibwe)Language.
