Details:
Celia Fuentes is a musician born in Chile. After the bloody coup in 1973 that overthrows the democratically elected government of Salvador Allende, her family immigrates to Canada. She lives several years in London, Ontario, before settling with her family in Montreal shortly after the 1980 referendum.

Her lyrics are influenced by these social-political experiences lived through several cultural and linguistic contexts. Celia begins to compose after borrowing a guitar she finds in her mother''s closet. From the beginning, her strumming style is influenced by the rhythms of the Andes. Self-taught in the beginning, she meets Leonardo de Luca, a pillar of the Montreal independent artist-entrepreneur scene, who becomes her teacher and mentor.

After a few performances alone or accompanied by Jef Désourdy, the drummer from the punk band Banlieue Rouge, she forms in 1998 the band Pato Feo (Ugly Ducking in Spanish). With a grant received in 1999 from Jeunes Volontaires, the quartet (guitar/voice, bass, trumpet, and drums) produces an eponymous EP with six songs. The same year, Pato Feo also records a cover of Blondie''s Heart of Glass which appears on the compilation KafKa Disco-Alterno. In 2000 Celia does additional vocals on the album “Carnet de déroute” for the band François Béru et les anges déchus (a project where several ex-members of Bérurier Noir, Banlieue Rouge and Akuma participate).

At the disbandment of Pato Feo, Celia moves to Paris for two years. The City of Light influences the lyrics of her new songs. When she returns to Montreal she learns to play the bass, but her favored instrument remains the guitar. She plays live solo or accompanied by long term collaborator Jef Désourdy. Under her label Pato Feo Records she records the three song EP Words for the muse in Morin Heights at the end of 2008. The final version of the EP appears in 2009.

On Words for the Muse, Celia plays guitars, bass, harmonica and sings. All songs are written and composed by her. Jef Désourdy is on drums, percussion and does back-vocals. Together they do the original engineering at Pato Feo Records studio. Leonardo De Luca and Vincent Tardrew are guest musicians, on bass and piano respectively, and also do the final mixing and mastering. The album is produced by Celia Fuentes, Jef Désourdy, and Leonardo de Luca.

Whether one catches her live or hears her recordings, Celia is a folk-alternative independent artist who prompts the listener to reflect on the human condition and how the political collides with the most intimate.
